A philanthropist and a true Indian who channelized his energies into building a world class Educational Institute and a better India. Dr. Patangrao Kadam is the founder of Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune, which is one of the largest and most well-reputed Educational Organizations in India and abroad, with more than 180 Educational Institutes under its umbrella. Dr. Patangrao Kadam is also the Founder-Chancellor of Bharati Vidyapeeth University. He was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly four times and represented the Indian National Congress Party. He is presently a Cabinet Minister in the Council of Ministers of Maharashtra (Forests).
He is also the Founder of many Co-operative units including a sugar factory (Sonhira Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd., Wangi, Taluka Kadegaon, District Sangli in Maharashtra), two spinning mills - Sagareshwar Sahakari Soot Girni Ltd. and Krishna-Verala Sahakari Soot Girni Ltd., Palus, District Sangli (meant for backward class), a Consumers' store and a Multi-State Scheduled Bank.
His commitment towards development of the society is not merely confined to Maharashtra. He has started colleges for engineering, management and computer applications at New Delhi, the Capital of India and in Dubai. Dr. Kadam's work and contribution to the society has been recognized by many organizations and acknowledged by way of numerous awards. To quote a few, he was awarded "Lok Shree", "Manvata Seva Award" by the Institute of Economics Studies, New Delhi for outstanding contribution to social and educational development, "Maratha Vishwa Bhushan Puraskar" by Maratha Seva Sangh for outstanding contribution in the field of education, "Excellence Award in Education" by IMM, New Delhi, "Shahajirao Puraskar" and "Udyog Bhushan Puraskar" in Kolhapur.
